Speaker #1: Robert Alexander Carew – Partner Manager and Solutions Engineer at VMware

Rob Alexander-Carew has been delivering technology solutions professionally for more than 23 years.  He is currently a Solution Engineer with VMware delivering multi-cloud solutions, previously he was with Microsoft where he spent 18 years in various roles in both the services and sales organizations.

Over the course of his career Rob has found success by following his passion to help customers succeed through technology solutions.  This has led him to a number of customer-facing roles from consulting services to product engineering to solution sales.

Over the past 9 years Rob has focused on leading his customers’ cloud journeys and removing the roadblocks they have had to migrating workloads or implementing new solutions.  He has certifications and experience with Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and VMware technologies and in order to provide the best options to his clients he has also added specialties in I.T. Compliance, Data Governance, and Knowledge Management to his areas of expertise.  He especially likes to geek-out on the regulatory details of Canadian data policies.

“Uniquely Canadian Complexities in Delivering IoT Solutions”
This session will cover interesting roadblocks and speed bumps Rob has seen while implementing Internet of Things projects.  Rob will cover both the technology limitations as well as some of the regulatory issues he faced and overcame while managing data and connectivity.

Nalin Khosla is the Sr. Manager Architecture (Innovation and Big Data) at a large Telecommunications in Toronto. Previously, he was chief data evangelist at Canadian Tire and before that he worked at a few start up’s in the FinTech and Technology sector.
Throughout his career, Nalin has focused on how people interact with data in their everyday workings and how they can use it to get better at what they do. He has served on panels on the Big Data Innovation and open standards and is a frequent trainer in analytics and keeping bike riders safe.

Nalin received his bachelor’s degree in Maths and Music He lives in Toronto with his wife and Golden Doodle and is an avid bike rider, everything outdoors and volunteering at various charities.

“AWS platform and launching for Ignite”
Rogers uses AWS in a hybrid environment to innovate and deploy features for its flagship Ignite XFINITY X1 offering, several times a month instead once every 6-12 months under its old architecture. Ignite is a new approach in delivering entertainment to consumers. The platform provides ability to scale without having to plan much in advance. Once the data is in AWS, business can start taking the benefit of beyond Infrastructure As a Service (IaaS), by using services like SQS, SNS, Athena, S3, EC2 and much more with no limit to what an innovative architect and developer can do with these offerings. That can lead to great business opportunities. The performance, security and reliability has been most impressive.

Alexander Turlov is a seasoned software professional, cloud expert and agile practitioner focused on excellence and ROI in software and IT. Being an industry veteran with a professional career in software development and information technologies over 25 years long, Alexander brings wealth of technical knowledge and experience from many successful projects in various industries. Having held a variety of technical, architectural and leadership roles over his professional career Alexander deeply understands the mechanics and intrinsic details of a successful software development or IT project. During the last decade Alexander has successfully adopted the agile methodologies and is actively involved in the cloud migration movement helping many organizations become more efficient in their software development efforts and receiving the most benefits from adopting emerging cloud technologies.

“Developing for the Cloud – What does it take and what does it really mean?”
Alex will dive into the major differences between standalone and ‘cloud’ development. He will discuss the various development skills required to become a successful cloud developer and what this path looks like. Finally, once these skills are attained, Alex will tell you what you can expect from a career in the cloud!

Hugo has over 30 years of experience in delivering IT solutions. Over the past 12 years, Hugo has been involved in some of Canada’s first and largest cloud migrations, with customers ranging from Healthcare, Energy and Mining, Education, and Finance industries.

As an Certified ScrumMaster, Hugo specializes in leading teams to successfully deliver complex projects. Hugo uses his technical expertise to oversee architectural decisions, coding standards, and design patterns and helps teams learn and adopt new technologies and techniques.

Hugo is sought out by senior executives to provide advice on business and technology strategy.  As an engaging public speaker, Hugo is frequently invited to speak to business and technical audiences alike to present technology concepts in an approachable manner.

Hugo frequently conducts workshops to help organizations get started using the Agile framework, writing personas, writing user stories, and requirements gathering, among other topics.

We have all heard about the impact that Cloud migration has on the technical side of an organization. When planning for a migration to the cloud, there is often a forgotten factor — The human impact. Whether you are a large business or an SMB, when migrating to the cloud planning for organizational change management is crucial. Hugo will outline steps to planning a cloud service offering from the human perspective.
